Whether you are turning your ceramic work into a functional light fixture or refreshing an older lamp, this workshop will guide you through the fundamentals of wiring lamps. Bring a ceramic piece you’ve created or a lamp that needs rewiring. No previous electrical experience is required. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed (or made significant progress on) their own lighting project and gained the skills to safely continue working on future single-socket lamps.
Participants will learn:
- How single-socket lamp wiring works and the purpose of each component
- Wiring a ceramic piece into a functional lamp
- Rewiring and updating existing single-socket lamps
- Installing switches and sockets
- Drilling holes to transform a ceramic piece
- Troubleshooting common lamp wiring issues
Participants should bring one project to work on:
- A hollow ceramic piece they would like to transform into a single-socket lamp (vases work great!)
or - A single-socket lamp that needs rewiring, repair, or updated hardware
Please bring pieces that are structurally sound and suitable for lamp conversion or repair. This workshop is not intended for chandeliers, multi-socket fixtures, or complex electrical repairs.

About the instructor:
Rebecca Boraz is a Portland-based artist, printmaker, ceramic artist, and founder of Brave Atlas Print Studio. She has been working as an artist for over 25 years, with a studio practice rooted in craftsmanship, experimentation, and a deep appreciation for handmade processes. Rebecca is represented by Froelick Gallery in Portland, where she exhibits her work in printmaking and ceramics.
Over the past four years, Rebecca has incorporated lighting into her ceramic practice, exploring the relationship between form, function, and illumination. Through this process, she has developed experience transforming ceramic pieces into functional lamps and working with the components needed to safely bring sculptural objects to life. As an experienced artist and educator, Rebecca enjoys sharing practical skills that empower makers to expand their creative possibilities.
