April Brimer, Ceramics Enthusiast

Hey, I'm April. I founded Pursuits Studio in 2020 in an attempt to expand my personal ceramics practice into something more communal. After teaching handbuilding classes for five years I expanded the studio to also accommodate members access.
My teaching philosophy is to give students a strong foundation in basic techniques while also presenting multiple options and ideas so they can follow their own interests while building the skills to create successful projects.
Before pottery I got my career started in Seattle as a commercial photographer. Notable clients included Dolce Vita footwear, Nordstrom, Totokaelo, Seattle Monthly Magazine, Seattle Bride & Groom, as well as countless record labels and independent brands.
After a short but successful career in photography, I was ready for a change of pace and craving a more hands-on type of medium. I took one beginners pottery class and was immediately hooked. In 2014 I was handbuilding with tinted porcelain to create marbled and terrazzo effects. Early commissions were done with stores like Urban Outfitters, Poketo, Need Supply, Goop, Nordstrom, and Herbivore Botanicals. My products were featured in publications like Dwell Magazine, GQ, Domino, Billboard, Elle Canada, and Vogue online.
My current focus is on my own skill building and knowledge growth as I continue to support the studio. In the future I'd like to experiment more with reduction firing and alternative firing techniques.
